Art. Culture. Convenience. All three are wrapped up in this ambitious reconstruction of Herron Square in the historic Herron Morton Place neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis. The 3.5 acre site will be returned to its original function as a location for the arts community and for educational purposes. The project includes rehabilitation of three prominent historic buildings, along with significant residential development.

The former Herron School of Art’s Fesler Hall will be transformed into seven owner-occupied, high-profile studios. Most of these units contain significant glasswork on the outerwalls, providing a remarkable view of downtown Indianapolis. This unique concrete building will dazzle this historic district with its new-found purpose.

Herron Square also will be home to seven new owner-occupied lofts, which will be built from the ground-up. These trendy downtown studios will offer the live/work option with a storefront below and a loft above. Ranging from approximately 2,200 to 3,700 square feet, these lofts cater to the cultural enthusist who enjoys the convenience of living near the heart of the city.

Herron Charter High School will occupy the two largest historic buildings, and will sublease some of the ground floor gallery spaces. Outdoor staging and displays will enrich this cultural neighborhood on the existing greenspace along 16th Street.

The estimated completion date for the project is Spring 2008.
