Fire Station #14
This 21st century fire station encompasses the open concept – airy rooms with the comforts of home. The fire station incorporates traditional fire station items — such as a sliding poll —with new fire-fighting technology. One central goal of this project was to blend with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, located across the road. The aesthetic fire station creatively displays mixed masonry, including concrete masonry units (CMUs) and brick.
Indiana Municipal Power Agency
In the late 90s, the Indiana Municipal Power Agency utilized Minkis Builders to essentially help double the company’s facilities. The project included adding conference rooms, workspace, parking spaces and an auditorium.
Fire Station #94
During the town of Fishers’ boom in the late 90s, Minkis Builders built Fire Station #94. The idea was to create a home away from home for the fire fighters. This fire station is complete with a kitchen, living room and bedroom area.
Federal Courthouse
This historic downtown building needed extensive renovation to meet the American Disability Associations’ standards. The project included a classic renovation of all the restrooms, as well as upgrading the heating and cooling systems.
St. Joseph's Institute for the Deaf
St. Joseph’s Institute for the Deaf (SJI) aims to equip hearing impaired children to speak and “listen” in order to assimilate into the hearing world.
In 2002, Minkis Builders renovated SJI’s old space in Nora. In 2006, Minkis Builders renovated a second location on the north side of Indianapolis. Several unique considerations were made to meet code in this building. All materials had to be fire resistant, with strobe lights to announce an emergency. The doors had to be easy to open and amenities were scaled back to child size.
